Crucial COVID-19 Updates in 2022

The UK is finally experiencing a drop in the daily number of people testing positive for COVID-19. As of April 8, 2022, only 333,347 confirmed cases were reported during the last seven days. There is also a significant drop in the number of tests done in the country.

Due to the country’s pandemic situation improvements, the UK government made several policy adjustments for more efficient data monitoring.

There are two main tests done in the country to know the number of people contracted the disease. The PCR test is a laboratory-based test conducted for people with symptoms. Meanwhile, the Rapid Lateral Flow Test, also known as the antigen test, is given to those with no symptoms.

The country also implemented specific day testing requirements during the pandemic’s peak. People from other parts of the world must do Day 2 and 8 tests if they are unvaccinated or from a country on the amber list. Those who want to reduce their quarantine period can ask for a day 5 testing by taking a PCR test on the fifth day of their arrival.

However, the government has stopped giving these tests for free to the public in England since April 1, 2022, except for NHS staff, social care workers, people over the age of 75, and those over the age of 12 with compromised immune systems. But you may still get tested by a private clinic offering a rapid antigen test in Wallington or an antigen swab test in Croydon if you are in these areas.

Other changes in COVID-19 testing in the UK include:

Rules for travel

As of April 7, any traveller can enter the UK without additional testing or quarantine requirements. Those vaccinated, partially vaccinated, and unvaccinated can now enter the country.

Quarantine rules

All the remaining quarantine facilities in the UK have been closed since the end of March. It makes the country one of the first nations to stop all COVID-19 international travel restrictions as part of the government’s steps in the living with COVID programme.

COVID Testing rules

People arriving in England no longer need to get tested. But if you think that you still need to get the test, you may purchase a COVID-19 test kit from your local pharmacies or retailers. These kits are available online or in physical stores.

Fit to fly certificate

If you have plans to travel outside of the UK, you must remember that some countries may request additional evidence of a past COVI-19 infection. It may serve as an alternative entry requirement to a negative COVID-19 test. You may get this from a private clinic for a fee since it is unavailable through the NHS.
