Covid-19 Antigen Test: What to Do If You're Worried About Your Health?

At the first sign of a sore throat or right after that first sneeze, our minds go straight to Covid-19. This is a new phenomenon. Before the thought of a common cold or the flu, while not particularly pleasant, didn’t scare us. However, as a result of the Coronavirus pandemic, a simple cold or flu symptom can now mean so much more.

So, instead of ignoring cold and flu-like symptoms and hoping that they go away, the best thing you can do to protect yourself and your loved ones is to take a Covid-19 Antigen test. Perhaps you’ve been exposed to someone with Covid-19 and you are worried about your health, a simple antigen test can give you results fast.

Visit one of our many Anna Pharmacy locations throughout South London to get your Covid-19 test in our pharmacy or pick up a Covid19 Antigen Test kit to do a self-administered test at home.

What is a Rapid Antigen Test?

The Antigen Test (also known as the Rapid Antigen test) is a diagnostic method used to detect the presence of the Corona virus’s antigens to determine whether or not you have COVID-19.  It is one of the quickest (and most reliable) COVID-19 tests that can give you accurate same-day results (often within 2-3 hours).

How Do Rapid Antigen Tests Work?

The Covid-19 Antigen Test procedure requires a throat or nose swab to collect cell and fluid samples. The sample then passes through a rapid analysis to look for certain antigens and proteins that are commonly found in the Coronavirus. It these antigens are found in your sample, then you will test positive for Covid-19.

Antigen Tests are developed specifically to search for the SARS-CoV-2 virus, but the method of examination is not as comprehensive and detailed as PCR tests, which detect the Coronavirus on a molecular level. Positive test results from a Rapid Antigen test are considered accurate, but occasionally a negative result can produce a false negative which makes it a bit less accurate than a PCR test.
