Getting your flu vaccine

It’s the best idea to get an Influenza vaccine before the flu season enters and begins to spread in the community.

There are months across the world that are considered months when flu is the most susceptible. These are the times when generally it is good to be vaccinated with the seasonal flu vaccine. Ideally, everyone should be vaccinated but this isn't always the case.

There is no set time limit for the administration of the seasonal flu vaccine. But there sure are some additional considerations concerning the timing of  various vaccination when it comes to certain age groups :

 ● Adults, especially the ones who have crossed the 65 years of age mark or are even older, should generally not get vaccinated with the flu vaccine before the flu season starts to set in. As with time, there may be a decrease in the protection provided. This sets up the need for another unnecessary appointment.

 ● Children on the other hand have no such restrictions. They can get vaccinated as soon as the vaccine is made available, or is in reach. Some children need more than just one dose of flu vaccines, preferably two. The Influenza vaccine is recommended for children. The children after being given the first dose of vaccine need the other to be administered within the next four weeks.

 ● Early vaccination can also be kept into consideration for people who are in the third trimester of pregnancy.

A look into the different types of flu vaccines available:

 ● Flu Shot

Flu shots are vaccines given with the help of a needle. They are usually administered in the arms.

 ● Quadrivalent Flu Vaccine

The quadrivalent flu vaccine is known to protect against four different flu viruses.

 ● High-Dose Flu Vaccine

The high-dose vaccine contains quadruplet times the amount of antigen. The regular flu shot is licensed specifically for people with the age bar of 65 years and older.

 ● Cell-Based Flu Vaccines

Cell-based vaccines are grown in cultured cells of mammalian origin and have become popular with time.

 ● Nasal Spray Flu Vaccine

Live Attenuated Influenza Vaccine [LAIV] is administered into the nasal spray flu vaccine.

 ● Flu Vaccination by Jet Injector

 ● Adjuvanted Vaccine

The adjuvanted flu vaccine is made with an ingredient that isn't normally present but is added to help create a stronger immune response. Also this Vaccine is licensed specifically for people 65 years and older.

 ● Recombinant Flu Vaccines
