Have You Know the Warning Signs of a Brain Injury?


A brain injury normally occurs when the head gets hit with a good amount of sudden force. A violent blow to the head is enough to cause a traumatic brain injury. Any object penetration can also be one of the causes of brain injury. Being aware of the warning signs related to brain injury and concussions is important.

 Warning Signs of a possible brain injury

 Brain Injury can have many adverse effects, the most common being that of psychological and physical effects. The most common symptoms of brain injury are as follows:

 

● Unconsciousness-  The level and severity of the traumatic brain injury determine the degree of unconsciousness. The phases of unconsciousness may last anywhere from only a few seconds to even a few hours. It may even persist for more than a day. In such cases, it becomes very important to reach out immediately to a doctor for brain injury treatment.

● Headache- Headache is perhaps one of the most common symptoms of brain injury. A headache may be persistent or may even get worse over time.

● The trouble with thoughts- There may be times when a person becomes confused, disoriented, or even feels dizzy after hitting one's head. This is one of the symptoms that demand Brain injury treatment.

 

● Nausea, vomiting, dizziness.

 

● Insomnia- Brain injuries can primarily cause variations in sleep patterns. This could mean either sleeping for an additional period or sleep for fewer periods. 

 

● Vision added with hearing impairment

There may be the presence of slurred speech. There can also be the presence of blurred vision or ringing in the ears after a potential brain injury. Sensitivity to light and sound may also be noted.

 

 ● Frequent changes in emotions- A brain injury can lead to variations in emotions, also termed mood swings. There may be feelings of irritability, depression, or anxiety.

 

Children's symptoms:

Infants and young children are not able to communicate what they go through. Hence it becomes even more important for parents to know the signs and symptoms of brain injury. From sensory problems to confusion to other such similar symptoms, here is a list of symptoms you must keep in mind to observe if your child has had a traumatic brain injury, or not:

 

● Abrupt changes in eating habits.

● Persistent crying and irritability.

● Inability to be consoled, no matter how much effort is put in.

● Having very less attention

● Changes in sleeping patterns.

● Seizures

● Visible sad mood

● Drowsiness

● Loss of interest in playing and other effects.

 

These warning signs can exist in very mild forms. They may even extend to being some of the most severe forms. Hence knowing these signs and symptoms remain essential.
